Have you heard the latest news and the newest trend for achieving better health? It’s not another “quick and easy” activity to get super amazing abs (although this trend is going around), or even another false claim on how to lose weight fast.
Believe it or not the latest buzz is all about detoxing. What’s crazy to me about this detox buzz is that detoxing to improve your health has been something people have done for a long time now. It’s not really a new idea or trend to jump on, unless we’re talking about detoxing with specific products.
In this post we will be talking about detoxing products specifically. Stay tuned to learn more!
For the month of June, I teamed up with Sidney, a representative of Total Life Changes (TLC), to put to the test the benefits of detoxing. TLC offers a ton of products to promote healthy living, but the products that I was most interested in were their detoxing tea and replenishing liquid vitamin (Nutra Burst).
Together we created a fun little challenge that incorporated the daily habit of exercising while detoxing. Ultimately, we wanted share with others the benefits of detoxing to improve your overall health. I personally wanted to put to the test the usefulness of detoxing with these products from TLC as opposed to detoxing water recipes.
For 30 days of the challenge I exercised daily for an average of 20 minutes, sometimes more if I felt like I needed it, and I used the IASO tea and Nutra Burst from TLC to help detox my body. In today’s post I’m going to share with you my overall experience with these products, and what my final thoughts are about them.

Background about TLC
To be honest prior to doing this challenge with Sidney I had never heard of TLC before. While this is a whole new world to me, I did a little bit of research about the company to really learn more about who they were. Afterall I wasn’t going to just dive into using products that I had no clue about what they do for my health and body.
Side note: You should also always take caution when looking into using something that you’ve never heard of before. Don’t be quick to jump on the band wagon for the hell of it. Ok back to the post!
Turns out TLC has been a company for nearly a decade now, and has always been promoting health beneficial products. Back in 2008 when it actually became a thing (very small somewhat unknown company) detoxing your body with tea was the main attraction. After countless people experienced the benefits of the detoxing tea for themselves, and with the help of spreading the word about this product, TLC soon became a household name.
Many, many years later it’s a thriving company with a ton of health promoting products to help others achieve a healthier lifestyle. So how did I finally catch wind of this craze? Sidney (she’s family) had been promoting and talking about it for a while now all over her social media, and one post in particular caught my interest.
Sidney was on a mission to buckle down for the month of June and make her health a priority. Her goal? To lose 15 pounds as well as spread the importance of detoxing. The main resource? The IASO tea and Nutra Burst detoxing products from TLC.
As someone who openly talks about the importance of living a healthy lifestyle, and someone who encourages others to make their health a priority, I wanted to help in any way that I could. So, the Heal Thy Self Challenge was born and on June 1st Sidney began her weight loss journey for the month, and I began my detoxing experiment with the TLC tea and liquid vitamin.
What is a detox?
Before we dive into my overall experience with the detoxing products from TLC, I want to first share a little bit of information with you about detoxing. If you’ve never heard of a detox, or have ever done a detox before, here’s a quick breakdown of what it is.
A detox is simply the process of removing waste and toxins from your body. While there are many reasons someone might do a detox, such as to lose weight, the overall goal of a detox is simply to improve your health.
Detoxing your body can occur in many different ways. Perhaps the easiest and most popular way is through infusing water with fruits and vegetables. I like to detox with water, and I just add lemons, mint leaves, cucumbers, and oranges to my water. You can also detox with tea, vitamins, and even specific foods that have high detoxing properties.
TLC however focuses on detoxing mainly through tea and their liquid vitamin. Due to this, for the month of June and for challenge purposes I focused on using the IASO tea and Nutra Burst from TLC as part of my detoxing journey. Here’s what happened.

The benefits of detoxing
1. Regularity
One thing that I was really looking forward to with this experiment was seeing the kind of impact it would have on removing waste from my body. It’s so important that we are going to do a #2 (you know what I mean) at least once throughout the day. Although ideally, we should be going after every meal.
For some people this is not the case.
A detox, specifically the IASO tea from TLC, is supposed to help significantly in that area. Detoxing in general can help your body become regular smegular, but the IASO tea is supposed to help you remove waste and toxins from your body on a daily basis. this is because when using the IASO tea you are supposed to drink it daily in order to get the full benefits of using the products, whereas with a simple detox you don’t want to over-do it.
I can honestly say that within 3 days of drinking the tea I did experience an increase in my bowel movements. If this was simply the tea alone, I’m not entirely sure, because I was also drinking 64oz of water a day, and still doing my regular monthly detox.
While I cannot confidently say that the tea itself made me go to the bathroom more frequently, I can say that drinking it every day did allow me to release myself at least once during the day, every day that I drank it.
2. Weight loss
One of the main promotions for detoxing the body is to help with weight loss. While this was not a personal goal of mines, I kept myself somewhat opened to the experience of it.
Health for me has always been about how you feel. I always choose to listen to my body and pay close attention to the way my body responds when I do certain things, like eating a shit ton of junk food. I rarely ever step on the scale and I never put too much focus on my weight unless I see a number that I am extremely uncomfortable with.
For the purposes of this challenge and testing the true benefits of these products I weighed myself at the beginning of the month and the day before this post went live. The results?
It kinda works.
Yes, I did see weight loss for the month of June, but it wasn’t a significant amount weight, and I’m not convinced that it was due to the products alone. Anytime you’re trying to lose weight there are three main habits that need to be adopted instantly and practiced consistently.
First, you need to exercise for at least 30 minutes a day, preferably something with some cardio to it. Secondly, you have to change your eating habits. Your diet is everything when you’re trying to lose weight, and the more committed you are to eating healthy, the better results you will see. Thirdly, you have to drink plenty of water. Water plays such a crucial role in our overall health, and yes, it is one of the key factors to not only losing weight, but keeping the weight off.
I exercised daily, drank plenty of water, and for the most part ate pretty clean for the month of June in combination with these products. So, the weight loss I personally experience I cannot confidently attribute to the products alone.
However, I also believe that this could very well just vary from person to person. One participant of the Heal Thy Self Challenge shared with Sid and I that after three weeks into the challenge, exercising daily, and drinking the tea, she was already down 20 pounds! Sid herself shared that three weeks in she had lost 11 pounds doing the same thing.
While that is amazing neither one of them shared what else they were doing that may have contributed to the weight loss outside of drinking the tea and exercising. So again, while I can’t bet all my money on the tea being a significant factor for weight loss, I do believe that it can help.

3. It helps to change your eating habits
The first thing I noticed within hours of drinking the tea on the first day was changes in my eating habits. Within an hour of eating I was hungry, and even after eating I would experience an increase in hunger.
I practice intermittent fasting daily. For me personally, my eating schedule is from 12pm-7pm. So I don’t eat before 12 unless I’m absolutely starving, and I do my best to not eat after 7. However, for the first two weeks of using these products I experienced such an increase in hunger.
For a while it was really hard to manage that hunger while staying committed to my fasting schedule. Some days I found myself eating before 10am, and some nights I was eating after 7pm.
To curb my hunger, I would either snack on fruit in the morning before my first meal, or I would just drink water to help fill me up. But I never incorporated more meals in my day than what I was already eating.
However, I do want to note that an increase feeling of hunger is normal whenever you’re detoxing. This is because your body is adjusting to not holding in as much waste, which means that you’re not feeling as full or bloated as you usually may. I detox monthly with water, but detoxing with the tea was a different experience for me.
This hunger increase will not last the entire detoxing process. Once you get the hang of it and find ways to manage it without engaging in overeating, you’ll be okay.
Ultimately detoxing your body can help you recognize the bad eating habits you need to change in order to reach your health and wellness goals by helping you understand the difference between hunger and mindless snacking.
To detox or to not detox?
Detoxing is not the worst thing you can do for your body. It’s actually a good idea to remove built up waste and toxins from your body every so often. I like to detox at least once a month, but I like to stick with some of my favorite detoxing water recipes.
While the tea and Nutra Burst are great options for detoxing and replenishing your body, they’re not the only nor the most effective way. My overall opinion about using the IASO tea and Nutra Burst products for detoxing is that it’s a win-lose situation.
If it’s not something you would mind investing in for detoxing purposes then by all means go head. However, if you want to detox and do it in a way that is more easily accessible to you, or you don’t want to do a gentle detox daily, you can achieve the same results with water.
There are literally tons of detoxing water recipes that you can find with a quick Google search, and all of those indigents can be found at your local grocery store.
I personally might not do a detox again with TLC. However, I wouldn’t shy you from trying it out if you want to. The products do work but to what extent by themselves I’m not entirely sure. My recommendation would be that if you did use these products, incorporate other health promoting habits and routines outside of it to really make sure that you’re actively working towards your health and wellness goals.
All in all, detoxing in general really just depends on your overall health and wellness goals. I recommend detoxing at least once a month (and again you do not need these products to do so), but ultimately you know your body and what it needs at certain periods of time. So listen to it and fuel it well.
You’ve got this honeybee!
