Whether you’ve been working out for a couple of day, a few weeks, a few years, or maybe you’re just starting out, there’s always a starting point to your fitness and wellness journey. It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been on your fitness or wellness journey, when you started and whether it has come to an end, there was once specific point and time in your life where you’ve had to start the journey.
Before we dive into this post, I want to share a quick story with you about my fitness and wellness journey.
My fitness and wellness journey started for me nearly 5 years ago and it’s been a constant up and down battle. There have been many times when I’ve been able to remain consistent with working out, as well as many times when I’ve lost track of my goals and have let all my hard go to waste. I’m talking about not remaining consistent with my workouts, going from eating healthy to eating terrible, drinking more soda than I did water…just a complete backtrack on all my hard work.
It took me years before I finally found something that just worked for me. Even upon discovering what worked best for me, I still struggled with remaining consistent with working out, eating healthy, and drinking plenty of water. This was because I found myself starting my fitness and wellness journey over many, many times which meant that a lot of my bad habits were not broken.
However, after nearly 3 years of working out with Blogilates, I finally found my groove. I’ll admit, the first 2 years was still a bit of a struggle for me, but working out with Cassey was the most consistent with any workout routine that I had ever been. So, after years of trying to find my tribe, I decided to stick with Cassey. And I’m so glad I did!
You see we all have a starting point when we begin our fitness and wellness journey. The key to staying on track is to remain consistent. The reality is that every time we stop, we have to start all over again. That alone is enough to break us, make us feel like a failure, and un-motivate us to achieve those goals that we set out to achieve form the beginning.
So how do we remain consistent? How do we prevent ourselves from having to start over time and time again? Or maybe you’re wondering just how to start off strong form the jump so that starting over and not remaining consistent won’t be a problem for you?
Whatever you’re curious about we’ve all been there before. I for one have been there multiple times! So today I’m sharing with you my best exercising tips for beginners starting a fitness or wellness journey! These tips are sure to help you create a consistent workout routine.

- Change your mindset
First things first, you got to change your mindset about working out. If you’ve noticed I often times refer to the act of working out as part of a fitness or wellness journey. This is because embarking on a fitness or wellness journey is part of a lifestyle change. Most people think of working out simple as something that you do.
Yes, it’s an activity that you do, but in order to commit to doing it often, and seeing positive results that remain consistent, you have to understand that, that requires a lifestyle change.
You have to let go of any negative habits you may have, change your eating habits, and change your daily level of activity. For most people who just simply workout this isn’t something that they have to do. It’s because it’s not a part of their lifestyle. Rather it’s just a part of their daily or weekly routine.
But if you want it to be a part of your lifestyle then these changes have to be made. Eating better will make you feel better from the inside out. Increasing your daily level of activity will not only help you be more active, but it will help you burn more fat and calories throughout the day. This will also encourage your body to adjust to being more active for longer hours throughout the day.
This may even inspire you to do more fun activities during the day. Finally, letting go of negative habits will allow you the opportunity to replace them with positive ones. All of this will help you along your fitness or wellness journey.
- Create the right environment
Next, you’re going to want to make sure that you have a comfortable and supportive environment. For me personally this is my home. I enjoy working out at home and I wouldn’t have it any other way. For others this may be the gym. Then of course you have some who prefer both.
It really just depends on what is going to make you feel the most comfortable and motivate you to remain consistent. Some would argue that this would also depend on what your fitness and wellness goals are. This can include things such as building muscle, toning your body, or losing weight. While I don’t disagree with this, I know that this still isn’t necessarily true.
I work out at home and while my main goal is to maintain a specific weight that I am comfortable with, every now and then I will work on building muscle and toning my body. I do this all at home.
One way I do this is with Cassey’s PITT28 program. PITT28 (Pilates Intense Interval Training) is a fitness program designed to help you get in the best shape of your life in 28 minutes. This program comes with workouts for the course of 28 days that will help you burn fat, tone your body, improve your stamina, and feel so much better about yourself overall!
As part of the program Cassey has also put together a helpful book full of healthy delicious recipes that you should eat for the 28 days of the program. This includes meals for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even snacks! It’s called the 28 Day Reset and it is designed to help you fuel your body, fight stubborn fat, prevent bloating, and so much more. It’s not a requirement to the program but it will help you get the best results.
There are different levels to this program. Also, the 28 Day Reset book can be brought individually without the PITT28 program, or you can buy it with the PIIT28 program. Check below to learn more:
- The starter pack includes PIIT28 1.0 only
- The PIIT28 Power Pack includes PIIT28 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0. These are the harder levels of PIIT and are only recommended if you’ve done the PIIT program with Cassey before, or are very familiar with a PIIT style workout.
- There’s also the Transformation Pack which includes PIIT29 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0. Plus, you get the 28 Day Reset book as well!
- Also don’t worry if you’re a vegan there’s a Transformation Pack for Vegans as well! Includes PIIT28 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, and the 28 Day Reset book.
In addition to trying to do the PITT28 program at least every other moth (more like every 3 or 4 months), I also do a variety of workout videos with Cassey online, and have even recently started working out occasionally with Whitney.
All you really need to get in a good workout at home that will help you build muscle and tone your body, are a set of dumb bells at whatever weight you prefer, a yoga mat, and a fitness instructor of some sort. I personally use Cassey as my fitness instructor and follow along to her YouTube videos, but there are plenty of options that can help you get the desired results you want, while still catering to the environment that is most ideal

- Find the right approach for you
Much like #2 you need to decided if it’s best for you to follow along to YouTube videos or have an instructor live and in person. You can find fitness instructors at your local gym, a fitness company of some sort, through referrals from gyms or other people who are on a fitness or wellness journey, or with a quick internet search. If your approach is to do it all online, again, a quick Google search will get the job done.
Again, I personally love Blogilates but she is tough! She’s not for everyone that’s for sure, but she will help you get the results that you want if you’re willing to put in the work. Plus, she’s literally always smiling, super positive, and is by far the best motivator I have ever had. Which is good because her workouts will tire you out and make you sweat up a storm like nobody’s business!
Strong and healthy. That’s the motto and she will hold you to it.
- Find your tribe
Embarking on a fitness or wellness journey can be lonely, I’ll admit. Sometimes the people you usually surround yourself with aren’t the most supportive, they don’t understand the process, they question everything you do, or they don’t hold you accountable for your actions. While these are not the kind of people you want to bring along on your journey, you also don’t have to cut them out of your life.
You just have to find the right group of people who genuinely get it. This may be others who are on a fitness or wellness journey, and this may not be. For example, one person that I consider to be a part of my tribe is my older brother. While he isn’t working towards any health and wellness goals, he’s not on a fitness or wellness journey of any sort, he does hold me accountable for everything.
From the foods I eat, to whether or not I’m contemplating working out for the day, he reminds me of my goals, my reasons for this journey, and helps me stay on track. It’s literally finding a group of people who can do simple things like that. Those are the ones who will support you and will hold you accountable.
- Create space in your life
The most important piece to this puzzle is creating the space in your life to truthfully live out this new lifestyle. This means that you adjust your usual schedule to be more realistic for your new lifestyle. For example, I prefer to work out in the morning. While my mornings are usually hectic with completing errands, getting the kids ready for the day, feeding the dogs, etc., it’s still the best time of day for me.
However, my mornings are the best time of day for me to do anything. This is because it’s when I feel most energized, it’s when I’m most motivated to work out, and it’s when I actually have the time to complete a 30-minute workout uninterrupted. While I would like to do my workouts around 7am the reality is that I can’t. So instead I get up 2 hours earlier and complete my workout at 5am.
I had to adjust my daily schedule in order to better compliment my new lifestyle. As you get further along on your wellness and fitness journey you will come to discover that adjustments will need to happen for you as well. Scheduling in my workout wasn’t the only adjustment I had to make. So, don’t be worried or bothered if you find that there are other areas you’ll need to adjust as well.

- Hold yourself accountable
Simply put hold yourself accountable.
While having a tribe to support you and hold you accountable as well is great and all, you shouldn’t just rely solely on them. You have to put a huge portion of that responsibility, that accountable on your shoulders. It will be up to you to ensure that you are eating healthy, are sticking to your workouts, are implementing positive habits, and whatever else comes with this new lifestyle for you.
If it’s not your cheat day or your cheat meal, skip the fast food option and go for the home cooked meal. If you haven’t worked out for the day and it’s not your rest day, don’t opt out of working out. Instead, get up, find the motivation and do the workout.
If you don’t hold yourself accountable for this new lifestyle then trust me no one else is going to feel the need to. In this situation you are the leader and everyone else in your tribe is just following the leader. So, you have to lead by example.
- Remain consistent
The bottom line is to be consistent. Finding your rhythm and groove is not going to happen overnight. It’s going to take time and there will be a trial and error process. However, you have to remain patient and stay focused. Remember, the worst thing you can do when starting a fitness or wellness journey is to just stop.
It doesn’t matter whether it’s at the beginning, the middle, or you’re somewhere deep and comfortable in the new lifestyle, just stopping and tricking yourself into believing that you can pick up right where you left off is a big mistake.
Don’t do it.
There will be days when you don’t want to work out. There will come a time when you don’t feel like you’re getting anything from your workouts because your body has become accustomed to it. However, don’t let those moments be the reason you just stop. Instead try something new, extend your workout session, or just give it time. Eventually your body will feel the burn again and you’ll find a whole new wave of motivation and inspiration for why you started this journey to begin.
The key is to remain consistent no matter what.
Here’s a conclusion of my best exercising tips for beginners starting a fitness or wellness journey:

- Create the right environment
- Find the right approach for you
- Find your tribe
- Create space in your life

- Remain consistent
And there you have it! These tips have definitely helped me stay on track with my fitness and wellness journey, especially this year.
