Personal Goals
1. Put yourself first
Don’t be afraid to make yourself a priority. I’ve seen many people in my lifetime fail to make time or space in their own lives for themselves. It’s important to do so because you’re just as human and as important as everybody else. This means that you have needs, you have wants, and you have dreams, hopes, ambitions, emotions, and so much more too. Going into the new year I highly encourage you to make a habit of doing things, and taking care of yourself before you put that energy into anyone else (unless its children, they always come first).
2. Do more for yourself
Just like putting yourself first you should make a habit out of doing more for yourself. This means doing things for yourself that you may usually push off to a later date for doing because you’d rather please someone else before pleasing yourself. I’m going to let you in on a little secret, it’s impossible to truly please anyone. No matter how much you do for someone they will always want more, which is why you should focus that drive and dedication into fulfilling your needs and wants instead. You can always satisfy yourself easier than you can satisfy anyone else.

3. Spend your money wisely
This is definitely something that I am going to practice more in the new year. I think it’s important to not be afraid to spend money on yourself. However, I think you should do this wisely. Challenge yourself to spend your money on things that are a necessity before you spend your money on things that you just simply want. A big part of being an adult is being able to be responsible and still have fun. This can be a tricky path to walk when you first enter adulthood, but eventually most of us get the hang of it. If I could go back in time and tell my 18 year-old self, one thing about money, it would be to spend it wisely. Invest in the things that are important fist, and then spoil myself later.
4. Develop a new hobby
The best way to keep busy without being busy is by having a hobby. If you don’t have a hobby then this is a must as you enter the new year. Trust me, you are going to want to have multiple outlets to help yourself de-stress, or be entertained in the moments when you need it most. You can have hobbies that you prefer to do by yourself, like reading, or hobbies that you prefer to do with others, like ceramics or going to the movies. Whatever your poison indulge in it, and if you have yet to discover what that is start the journey now.
5. Stress less
As you enter the new year make the goal to stress less. Even if this is the only goal that you make, make it a priority. Stress takes over our minds and our bodies in such debilitating ways, especially when we allow it to pile up. New year, new goals are all about giving yourself a clean slate to begin anew on. Let this slate begin with limiting the amount of stress that you take on and let pile up in the new year. Engage in more self-care practices, find someone who you can confidently talk to about how you’re feeling and what’s going on in your life, and set your stress free. The more you practice this the easier and more freeing it will be.

6. Develop a consistent workout routine
It’s no secret that I think it’s extremely important to take care of yourself. Of course there are many different ways in which you can do this, but perhaps the most effective form I have found is by having a consistent workout routine. If you’re not a big fan of working out or you find that you have a hard time sticking to a workout routine, you are not alone. I find myself in this position many times throughout the year. The best and most effective way for me to combat this is by keeping my workouts to a time limit that is more effective and realistic for me. I only workout for 15 minutes every day, and I use many workout videos from Casey (my favorite) to keep my workout routines intense, fresh, and never boring.
7. Meditate more
Meditation is a great way to de-stress and re-center yourself. A lot of people avoid the practice of meditation because they don’t have the patience to do it. I’ll admit, it does require a great deal of patience, especially when you’re just jumping into the practice and have to find your groove. Mediation has many positive health benefits, such as learning how to control your anxiety, enhancing self-awareness, reducing age-related memory loss, and expanding your attention span. As you enter the new year try to make a habit out of practicing mediation every day for at least five minutes. I promise you will see and feel a difference in your everyday lifestyle, thoughts, and emotions immediately.
8. Pamper yourself at least once a week
A very big part of engaging in self-care is having the courage to pamper yourself. This looks different for everyone, as it should. Pampering yourself is really just a fancy way of saying you should take care of yourself. You should engage in a self-care activity at least once every week because it’s a great reminder that you have to take care of yourself in order to be able to take care of others. I know many people who are afraid to pamper themselves, I was one of these people two years ago. However, with time and consistency I quickly came to learn that I am the best version of myself when I feel good and have taken the time to invest in myself.
9. Adopt a healthier diet
If you would have told me two years ago that my diet had a direct influence on my overall health and wellness, I would have told you that I didn’t believe you. As much as we may think our diet does not have an influence on our overall health and wellness, the fact of the matter is that it does! What we fuel our bodies with influences the way we think, how we feel, how we see ourselves, and most importantly the level of energy (and the kind of energy) we are able to put out in the world. If you want to avoid earning the title as the “Year-Round Grinch”, or you want to have more energy in the day to do the things you love, then you should focus more on your diet. Adopting a healthier diet will help you achieve all your health and wellness goals, provide you with more energy throughout the day, and change the way you think and feel about yourself.
10. Be more health conscious
All in all, a great goal to make for the new year related to self-care is to be more aware of your health all around. This includes your mental health, your emotional health, and even your physical health. All too often we find ourselves getting way too comfortable with our lifestyles that very rarely do we ever take the time to evaluate the areas that could use some improvements. We become comfortable with the types of foods that we put into our bodies, we become comfortable with not being more active, and we become comfortable with letting feelings of stress and self-doubt take over our mental states. As we enter the new year we have to learn how to stop doing this. We learn how to do stop doing this by choosing to be more health conscious. Take a closer look at areas that you could improve on, or that you just straight up want to make a change in, and then do it.

11. Work a job you are passionate about (and keep aiming for your dream job)
It’s no secret that we all have to work in order to make a living. But what if I told you, you could work and make a living doing things that fuel your soul? Believe it or not this is true. Passion is everything, and if it only lives truthfully inside of you for a short period of time, it’s not what brings you to life. Don’t make the mistake of living a life that lacks passions and makes you feel alive, and if you already have, know that it is not too late to change your path in life. Invest in a job that you are not only passionate about, but that brings you to life, even if that is your dream job that you never thought you would achieve someday. You never know what the future holds, and next year may very well be your year to shine.
12. Better Yourself
I’m a big believer in the idea that we should always strive to be the best versions of ourselves every single day. Whether that’s being more active for health purposes, learning how to be more generous, or learning how to make yourself a priority, you are never done with working on yourself. The best part about living a happy and fulfilling life is that we naturally find the inspiration to better yourself continuously. We find this inspiration in the people that we surround ourselves with, in the type of activities that we do, and even in the way we choose to feed our souls, such as engaging in self-care consistently. Make yourself a priority in the new year by finding unique and empowering ways to better yourself.

13. Surround Yourself With Happiness & Positivity
Happy people are happy because they have nothing but positivity in their lives. This sounds so silly and I don’t know how much truth there is to this, but I believe it whole heartedly. In the new year intentionally choose to let go of any negativity, any toxic people who may be in your life, and fill all that space up with positivity. From here on out you should be aiming to live a life that is genuinely happy and fulfilling to you. The best way to accomplish this is by keeping everything that is good and positive in your life, and letting go of everything that is bad and negative.
14. Educate Yourself About A Specific Interest You May Have
Much like a hobby finally make the time to either learn something new, or expand your knowledge about something you already know. You can never know too much, and I’m a firm believer in the fact that we are lifelong learners. While it’s never too late to learn about something, it’s also never too early. The sooner you start the better off you will be. Whatever you may have had a heavy interest in as of late (or for a while), but haven’t been able to commit the time to really dive deep into it, make this new year the year that you finally get it done.

15. Read More Inspiring Books
I absolutely love reading! It is easily one of my favorite things to do. This year I’ve really gotten into reading books written by some of my favorite and most inspiring idols that were so empowering in helping me find the courage and the confidence to live the life that I have always dreamed of living. If you never thought that you could find such inspiration, confidence, and encouragement from a book before, well now you know. The key is to find and read the books that you can honestly relate to, because that’s where the inspiration and empowerment will really start.
If you’re interested in reading some of these books, here are my top 3 that I highly recommend!
