The spookiest time of year is upon us again and honestly, I couldn’t be any happier!
That’s right folks I’m talking about Halloween! If you love this holiday as much as I do then you can understand, and better yet relate to me when I say this is the time of year I look forward to the most. Not Christmas (that’s second), not Thanksgiving, and not even New Years. For me it’s all about Halloween!
I love seeing everyone dressed up in their costumes, some of them homemade others store brought. I enjoy all the holiday themed treats, like cookies, cakes, and rice krispies treats. All the Halloween movies really help bring the holiday to life, like Monster House, Casper, Beetlejuice, and of course The Addams Family. This is probably my favorite part about the whole holiday, the movies. I could never get enough of all the Halloween movies!!
Literally there is just too much about this holiday that makes it the best holiday of the year. From the food, to the clothes, the movies, the delicious treats, the amazing decorations, the occasional scare that makes you want to jump out of your skin, and all the super fun Halloween parties one can dream of, it’s almost impossible to not love this holiday.
Almost.
What makes this holiday even better is the fact that it falls in the best season of all, Fall (see what I did there?)! The colorful leaves, and the crunchy sound they make with every step you take, the nice cool air which can sometimes get very cold (even I will admit that), and the smell of firewood in the air from all the fireplaces lighting up at night, this season is so relaxing and welcoming. Adding Halloween to this whole mix just makes it all the better.
In honor of celebrating the spookiest day of the year, I’ve put together a list of fun and creative Halloween projects to help you celebrate the spookiest time of year. The best part, and perhaps my favorite part, you can do them all in the comfort of your own home.
My Favorite Spook-tastic Halloween Ideas
- Baking Halloween Cookies
I love baking holiday themed cookies, especially cookies for Halloween! There are so many cute little shapes to choose from. My favorite cookie shapes to make are bats, ghosts, and pumpkins. Also, if we’re being honest, don’t cookies taste so much better when you’re eating a cute little shape that you don’t see every day? Call me crazy but I say yes!
- Pumpkin Carving
Probably the most cliché of them all but I don’t care. Every year I carve a pumpkin with my nephew and we have a blast doing it! It’s also so easy to do. All you need are some essential pumpkin carving tools, as well as a picture of your choice to use as a stencil for the artwork on the pumpkin, and you’re good to go! You’re also going to want your pumpkin to come alive at night. To do so either just light a tea light candle inside, or you can place an L.E.D light inside.
Last year I carved The Pumpkin King Jack Skellington on my pumpkin. This year I’m not sure what I will carve. Any suggestions?

- Decorating
What’s Halloween without the decorations to go with it? I never decorate my house simply because it’s a lot of work, and if I had things my way I would never take the decorations down. However, my mom and older brother both agree that having Halloween decorations up year-round takes the fun out of celebrating other holidays. So, I usually skip the decorations, but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy seeing other houses that do choose to decorate their homes, both on the outside and on the inside.
- Costume Shopping
Personally, I believe everyone who is choosing to celebrate the spookiest day of the year should dress up! I just think it really puts the spirit of Halloween out in the air for everyone to enjoy. What makes this specific aspect of the holiday so fun is that you can dress up as an individual, or you can get your family and friends to join in on the fun!
I mean come on, who doesn’t want to be The Incredibles for a day!?!?!
- Halloween Makeup
If buying costumes and dressing up isn’t really your thing, don’t worry I totally get it. There are some years when I’d much rather just focus on my face instead of the whole shebang. If you’re one of these kinds of people, here’s a fun video of Halloween Makeup Tutorials to spook some inspiration for the big day!
- Watch the Best Halloween Movies
While all the yummy treats, the decorations, and dressing contribute greatly to main this holiday the best one ever, the only thing I really do look forward to the most is all the Halloween movies! If you don’t know by now, I am a movie junkie! I love watching movies especially ones that are holiday themed. If you’re in need of some of the best Halloween movies to check out this year look no further. I’ve got a list full of some of the best Halloween movies for you right here!
These are my favorite things to do every year in celebration of Halloween. Of course, there are a ton more super fun activities you can do. Curious as to what else you could possibly do to make this holiday the best one ever? Here’s a few more spook-tastic ideas!

- Make Every Day of October Have A Special Halloween Touch in Just 10 Minutes or Less
Yes, Halloween is just another holiday that only comes once a year, but that doesn’t mean we only have to celebrate this special day on the 31st of October. In fact, I highly encourage you to start celebrating Halloween as early as possible. If not right now in this very moment, then you at the very least have to start on October 1st. Need a few ideas on how to make all the days leading up to Halloween special? Christine at The (mostly) Simple Life has 13 ways to help you make the days before Halloween special!
- Decorating Halloween Sugar Cookies.
Ok so you already know that one of my favorite things to do in celebration of Halloween is to bake cookies in the shape of Halloween characters. You’re probably wondering what could possibly be better than baking Halloween themed cookies? How about going above and beyond by decorating Halloween themed sugar cookies! Anyone who does this I love you so much, because I personally do not have the patience for it, but I love me a good cookie with a lot of personality to it. Interested in learning more? Lisa at A Country Girl’s Life has got all the inspiration you need to decorate your Halloween sugar cookies!
- What’s Halloween Without A Skeleton?
Not Jack Skellington although he is The Skellington of Halloween (he’s not crowned The Pumpkin King for no reason). There are tons of delicious treats you can make for Halloween, perhaps way too many to name. One treat that is sure to become a family favorite is the skeleton bones treat. Don’t worry it’s not really bones (or is it?). Interested in how you can make this delicious but very boney treat? Tracie at Penny Pinchin’ Mom has got the skeleton bones recipe!
- Slime Popcorn
Am I the only one who thinks of Nickelodeon when I hear the word slime? Yes? No? Maybe? I should probably state that I’m a 90s baby! Well whether or not I’m the only one who immediately goes straight cartoons on Nick, here’s a slimy recipe you don’t want to skip out on for Halloween. Kristine at Krisbee Mama has got an amazing and easy Jell-O popcorn recipe to turn yucky slime into yummy slime!

- Throw A Super Fun and Inexpensive Cookie Decorating Halloween Party
Cookies are obviously a hit for me when it comes to Halloween. We topped baking Halloween shaped cookies with decorating sugar cookies in honor of this holiday. So, what’s next? How about throwing a party specifically for decorating cookies! Annie at Side Hustle Mom has got all the answers to throwing an inexpensive cookie decorating party! The best part? It’s Halloween themed 😊.
- Costumes for Pets?
Got pets in the family? Well they can (and really should) join in on the fun too! I’ll admit for the longest time I never saw the point let alone the fun in dressing up your pet for Halloween. I mean sure, they’re a part of the family and they deserve to have fun too, but why dress them up? They have fur for crying out loud what more could they possibly need? That was until I finally got a dog of my own and started to understand the hype of it all. Still not convinced they should get in on the fun too? Don’t worry, Debbie at The Flooring Girl has got a list of super cute Halloween costumes for your pets that will be sure to bring you over to the other side!
- Cupcake Tutorials
Cookies are fun to decorate but cupcakes are even better. Even I have to admit that. I’ve never really been one to include cupcakes as a selection for a tasty treat among the other delicious treats, but I’m starting to reconsider this. After checking out all these amazing and super fun cupcake tutorials, I may just have to add this to the desert menu this year. Once you get a glimpse of these, you’ll be sure to do the same. The best part is that they are all super easy to do. Check out these amazing cupcake tutorials Catherine at The Fit and Healthy Baker has been kind enough to put together for us all!
- Halloween Wine Accessories
What’s a party without a little bit of wine? My choice of drink for Halloween has always been juice. This is mainly because I’m not much of an alcohol drinker, and whenever I’m doing something fun for the whole family to enjoy I’m always thinking of the kids. However, after checking out these super adorable wine accessories Jamie at Dancing With Wine has discovered, I may just have to rethink my drink selection this year.
- Trick-or-Treating
What’s Halloween without trick-or-treating. I look forward to doing this every year, even before my beautiful nephew was welcomed into this world. I’m that adult that believes you are NEVER too old to go trick-or-treating, but I’m not that adult who takes all the candy from the little ones. Instead, I just like to dress up and walk around my neighborhood with my older brother and my nephew, and watch all the kids fill their up baskets (or if you’re like me pillow cases) with as much candy as they can possibly carry. While some individuals like to celebrate Halloween by scaring people, some people just aren’t into it. Especially children and the parents of those children who have to bare the lingering effects of the scarier side of Halloween. Irina at My View On It has some great advice on how you can enjoy all the fun of Halloween in a toddler friendly way!
With spook-tastic Halloween ideas like these you will be looking forward to the spookiest day of the year every year! I can almost guarantee it 😉
