Valentine’s Day is here! If you’re anything like me and you don’t have a Valentine, or you don’t have anything romantic planed, have no worries. First, I’ve never had a Valentine and I think I turned out pretty good! So, there isn’t some secret to achieving and maintaining a successful love life hidden on this day of love. Second, you don’t have to plan anything romantic, just spread the love and appreciation you have for those who mean the most to you.
After all this day is about all love! That doesn’t just mean the love you have for others, but also the love you have for yourself. I’m talking about self-love!
We have learned to associate this day with couples. It’s the day of the couple. For some singles this can be a bit annoying (trust me I know). For some couples this can be a bit overwhelming. Valentine’s Day is all about spreading and sharing the love. That comes in many different shades of red. It can be something as simple as baking cookies and sharing them with your co-workers, or treating your significant other to a special romantic dinner. Whatever this day means for you, just be sure to spread the love!
I usually avoid being out in public if at all possible on Valentine’s Day. I prefer to cuddle up by myself in bed and watch my favorite rom-coms (romantic comedies), or read romance novels. This day is usually all about me! Mainly because I’m single and therefore do not have a significant other to celebrate this day with, but also because I believe in the power of self-love! If you’re single as well and may feel the pressure of what it’s like to be single on this day, I know just what you need.
Been there, done that, and honestly, I am still there and still doing just that! In other words, I’ve got you covered! Here are 12 ways to own Valentine’s Day like a single not looking to mingle!
12 Ways to Own Valentine’s Day Like A Single Not Looking to Mingle!
- Watch Rom-Coms!
Seriously, literally the best thing any single person can do for their soul. If you’re not “thriving” in your love life, whether that is by choice or not, why not watch romantic comedies that speak directly to you about your love life? It’s one of the best medicines to keep a bleeding heart, beating with passion and desire.
- Be my Valentine
Get together with the girls or guys and make plans to spend the day and/or night together. Take it up a level by hosting a “Be My Valentine” mini party the day before where you all get together and randomly draw each other’s name out of hat. Whoever’s name you pull, get them a Valentine’s Day gift to give the day/night you all go out. Be each other’s Valentine!
- Share the love
Just because you’re single doesn’t mean you can’t share the love. Make Valentine’s Day cards for those who are close to you. Whether that is your family, your closest friends, or even your co-workers, let them know you are thinking about them.
- Read romance novels
Spice up your day with some romance novels. Skip the night out. Instead, put on your favorite pajamas and cuddle up in bed (or a big comfy chair) with a romance novel.
- Spa day
Get together with the girls (or guys) and have a spa day! Want that alone time? Treat yourself to a relaxing day.
- Staycation at home
Transform your living room into the vacation of your dreams! Light your best candles, lay out rose petals, run a hot bubble bath, turn on some relaxing music and let your imagination do the rest.
- Anti-Valentine’s Day party
Get together with a group of friends who are also single and throw an Anti-Valentine’s Day party. Skip the candy and stick with finger foods and the best booze you can buy. Share past Valentine’s Day experiences that were an epic fail, and enjoy the company of your single companions.
- Workout
When you factor out the romantic dinners, big teddy bears, and all the candy the world has to offer, Valentine’s Day is just another day. So, don’t take your health for granted. Get in a good sweat before the day is over with.
- Date night
Get together with a group of single friends and have your own date night. Go to the movies, or maybe you choose to go out to dinner. Whatever you do just do it together!
- Fall in love with something new
Discover new passions and desires in your life. Take a cooking class, or better yet a dance class. Try your hand at Improv. Whatever you do, use this day as the day you step out of your comfort zone and try something new.
- Identify your love goals
Make a list of love goals. What do you want your love life to look like in the future? Take the time to think about this and set the intention to achieve those love goals.
- Embrace Being Single
There’s nothing wrong with being single! In fact, there are many reasons as to why people may be single. Whatever those reasons are, don’t use this day to beat yourself up. Instead, embrace the single life and stay focused on your life goals!
